Discover is approaching the spud of the exploration well 6609/10-2 within the production license 483S in the Norwegian Sea . Discover holds a 30% participating interest  in the license.
The operation is planned for 30 days  with a spud date at 3th of September 2009.

The Operator is Det Norske Oljeselskap (40% share), and the other partner in addition to Discover is Dana with 30% participating interest.

The semisubmersible rig Songa Delta will be utilized in drilling the well.

"This is the first exploration well for Discover, and we really look forward to see the result from the operation", says Exploration Manager Yngve Vassmyr.

The " Trolla" prospect is situated within the blocks 6508/3, 6608/12 and 6609/10, approximately  44 km east of the  Norne oil field. There are several prospects within the license, of which Trolla is the largest and most interesting. The license was awarded in the APA 2007. The water depth at the well location is 265 meter.

The project has defined several reservoirs along the well track, but the main reservoir is in the lower Jurassic, approximately 2000 meter below seabed in a rotated fault block at the western flank of the Helgeland Basin.

Due to special environmental conditions, with among others,  deep sea corals, it is during the well planning taken special  precaution to take care of and protect the environment in this area.

"The company is facing an exiting time, and a discovery in this well will be very important for Discover", concludes Mr. Yngve Vassmyr.
