Environmental Challenges and Petroleum Activities in the High North

Discover Petroleum recently dedicated one full-day internal seminar for all employees to discuss the environmental challenges connected with petroleum activities in the High North.

The seminar was facilitated by Akvaplan-niva, an aquaculture and environmental research and consultancy company providing services to amongst others, oil exploration companies.  

Lectures on the ecosystem, holistic regional management plans, risk management, oil spill contingency and co-existence with other users and industry were given by Akvaplan-niva, the Norwegian Coastal Administration, NOFI and NORUT.  

"It is important for Discover Petroleum  as a responsible operator and partner in licenses in the environmental sensitive areas of the High North to learn more about the characteristics of these areas and the available tools and technologies", says HSE Manager Lill-Gøril Seljelv. She continues:  

"We will conduct all our activities in accordance with best available practice and technologies in order to meet the environmental challenges related to our operations. I am very satisfied with this seminar and with the interest and dedication shown by all of our employees to this important element of our business strategy."  

Discover Petroleum is currently preparing applications for both the APA2008 and the 20th concession round. In order to identify environmental challenges and possible measures to be taken, environmental screening studies are initiated for areas to be included in these applications.
